How to show the taskbar on a second monitor in Windows 11

To show the taskbar on a second monitor in Windows 11, turn on Show my taskbar on all displays in Taskbar behaviors. Glassline replaces that taskbar with a menu bar on each screen and a dock that follows you when you click another display.

Show the Windows taskbar

  1. Open Windows Settings. Choose Personalization, then Taskbar.
  2. Open Taskbar behaviors. Find Show my taskbar on all displays.
  3. Check Show my taskbar on all displays. The Windows taskbar appears on your second monitor too.

This setting puts the Windows taskbar on your connected displays. Glassline adds its own menu bar across the top of each screen, with your apps in a dock below.

Show Glassline on both screens

  1. Install Glassline from the Microsoft Store. Open it to replace the Windows taskbar and Start menu with Glassline's menu bar, dock and Search.
  2. Open Glassline Settings. Right-click the menu bar and choose Glassline Settings, then open Menu Bar.
  3. Turn on Show on every display. Each screen gets its own menu bar at the top. Look at your second monitor to check that its bar is there.

Each bar takes the colour of the app maximized on its display. The bar on the screen you aren't using is dimmed, so you can see which screen you are working on.

Work on the second monitor

  1. Click anywhere on the second display. The dock comes to that screen. Your app icons are now within reach there.
  2. Press the Windows key. Glassline Search opens on the display you are working on. Type the name of an app or file to find it.
  3. Open Glassline Settings from that screen's menu bar. Settings opens on the display you are using too.

The dock hides only for windows on its own display. With the dock on a screen showing the desktop, an app on the other screen leaves it visible. To bring a hidden dock back, move the pointer to the bottom edge of its screen.

Keep the bar on your main screen

To keep Glassline's menu bar on your main display only, open Glassline Settings, choose Menu Bar and turn off Show on every display. Turn it on again whenever you want the bar back on your second screen.

Try it right now

The home page is a working Glassline. Move over its dock, click its menu bar, open Search and Control Center.
